Hazelwood Residents Donate to Police Explorers

This program gives youth, ages 14 to 21, an opportunity to “try out” a career in law enforcement without actually having to go through the educational and hiring process.

The Villa at Riverwood residents gave the Hazelwood Police Explorers Post #9217 a $740 donation, to help fund the program which helps youth interested in law enforcement as a future career, to experience the profession.

“The Villa at Riverwood has a very active group of independent seniors that cares about the community," Fran Jackson, The Villa at Riverwood executive director. "We looked at all the different organizations we could raise money for and decided to support the Hazelwood Police Department because of how good they’ve been to us.”

Jackson said Hazelwood police officers come whenever the facility needs them.

"We really respect and appreciate them,” she said.

Hazelwood Police Sgt. Andy Eagan said the money will help the explorers  purchase uniforms and cover the cost of registering them for special conferences such as the St. Louis Area Law Enforcement Explorer Academy.

In partnership with the Greater St. Louis Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America through its Exploring for Life’s career education program, the Hazelwood Police Department established its Police Explorer Post #9217 in the summer of 2003.
