Black History Month Events, Trivia Nights To Get You Out The House This Weekend

The weekend is here and Hazelwood Patch has a few things for you to get into.

It’s time to set your weekend plans, do you know what your're going to do?

Well Hazelwood Patch has a few ideas for you. With February coming to a close, we've got some Black History Month events that you can attend, most of which are free or low cost. Let us know how they go.

FISH FRY

  • When/Where: Bellefontaine United Methodist Church, 10600 Bellefontaine Road, Feb. 18  from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Why Go: Get out and enjoy the fresh air. Dinners include an entrée and two side dishes.

  • Cost: $6 for a single entrée, $7.50 for a double entrée, FREE for children under 6 years old.

  • BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT: HARRIET TUBMAN

    • When/Where: This event is at 10 a.m., Feb. 18, Barnes and Noble, Ladue Crossing Shopping Center, 8871 Ladue Rd., Ladue, MO 63124.

    • Why Go: The story time will present children with Harriet Tubman’s biography,Harriet Tubman, written by Marion Dane Bauer and illustrated by Tammie Lyon.

  • Cost: This story time is free.

  • TRIVIA NIGHT

    • Where/When: Trinity Catholic High School, 1720 Redman Road, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.

    • Why Go: The Spanish Lake Community Association is sponsoring the trivia night. Doors open at 6 p.m., and proceeds will benefit the restoration of the Twillman House as a community center for Spanish Lake.

    'DAVE THE POTTER' AND 'HENRY'S FREEDOM BOX' 

    • Where/When: The story time will begin at 11 a.m. Feb. 19, Barnes and Noble, The Shoppes at Cross Keys, 13995 New Halls Ferry Rd., Florissant, MO 63033.

    • Why Go: The story time will present Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave, the winner of the 2011 Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award an 2011 Caldecott Honor Book. Children will also hear the true story of Henry Brown, a slave who mailed himself to freedom in the book Freedom Box: A True Story of the Underground Railroad.

    • Cost: This event is free.

    CHORAL CONCERT: The Joys of Glory Gospel Singers

    • Where/When: Solomon Temple M.B. Church, 4859 St. Louis Ave., on Feb. 20 at 3 p.m.

    • Why Go: The Joys of Glory Gospel Singers, the Solomon Temple M.B. Church Choir, Michael Latchinson, the St. John's M.B. Church Choir, the Ivy Airs, the Gospel Wings and the Jordon Airs will salute African-American History Month.

    • Cost: This event is free. In kind offerings are accepted.

    'SHADOWBALL: THE NEGRO BASEBALL LEAGUE'

    • When/Where: 1 p.m. Feb. 19, of the St. Louis County Library195 South New Florissant Rd., Florissant, MO 63031

  • Why Go: Bobby Norfolk, an Emmy-winning performer, presents this one-man theatrical performance about the Negro Baseball Leagues.

  • Cost: This event is free.
