2nd Annual Katie Campanella Fundraiser is April 25

Incarnate Word Academy will host its second annual fundraiser bazaar April 25 on behalf of Katie Campanella, an 11-year-old Hazelwood girl that died in a car accident October 2012.

The second annual Spring boutique in honor of the Katie Campanella Visual Arts Scholarship Fund will take place on April 25.

On October 8, 2011 Katie and her sister Elizabeth were in a tragic car accident in which Katie lost her life. Katie, was 11 years old at the time, and her sister Beth was seriously injured.

"Katie was a fun-loving, energetic, and kind-hearted eleven year old with a smile that lit up the room," said Katie Eagan, a member of Incarnate Word Academy's alumni association.

This year, Incarnate Word Academy's annual Spring boutique hopes to do as well as its first year, which raised $30,000 for the scholarship fund that provides scholarships for students.

This year the Spring boutique will benefit two scholarships: The Alumnae Legacy Scholarship which will support new students who are daughters, granddaughters, and nieces of IWA Alumnae, and the Katie Campanella Visual Arts Scholarship Fund which is awarded to an incoming student who displays outstanding talent in drawing, painting, and photography.

Although Katie attended Our Lady of the Pillar School in Creve Coeur, she had aspirations to someday follow in her sister's path and become part of the Incarnate Word Academy community.

"Katie hoped to one day follow in her mother, Chrissy Koeller Campanella ’88, sister and aunts’ footsteps by attending Incarnate Word Academy," Eagan told Hazelwood Patch last year. "In Katie’s eleven years, she touched the lives of many, and it is our goal to endow the Katie Campanella Visual Arts Scholarship Fund."

The spring boutique will have various licensed vendors. A few vendors include Willow House, Thirty-One, Katherine Jessica Collection, Sew Curly, Scentsy, Custom Buckles, Beijo Bags, Stampin Up, Patty Carnahan Jewelry, Rob's Portraits, Usborne Books and More, and Cutco.

Eagan said there will also be various food vendors who will be handing out their appetizers and desserts to the shoppers from 5 to 7 p.m.
