6 Things to Do in Hazelwood Before the End of Summer

As we get close to a change in seasons, we're helping you check off things to do for the summer before it's gone.

With school getting back in session and cooler temperatures starting to enter the picture a bit more and more, it’s clear that the summer season has begun to fade.

Before it goes away completely, though, we’re giving you a rundown of places where you should visit before you put away sandals and strap on the boots.

  1. White Birch Bay is only open on weekends until Sept. 2, and it could be the last times to get your feet wet until next Memorial Day.
  2. Tennis courts are open and plentiful around town, and cooler weather doesn’t make for the easiest or fun experience. Make sure you hit the court before cold temperatures or even snow hit the ground.
  3. Enjoying a nice meal with the night air will become a thing of the past soon enough. So make sure you enjoy the outdoor atmosphere of places such as Starbucks or at Saint Louis Bread Company before it’s too cool.
  4. Before the weather requires a jacket or sweatpants, enjoy a walk, jog or full-out run along one of the trails such as the half-mile trail at Pershall Park or the one-and-quarter mile at Harry S. Truman Park.
  5. In the same vein of eating, picnics will also be a thing of summer memories momentarily. So check out a pavilion for a family gathering such as the one at Aubuchon Park or check out a nice picnic table at Little White Birch. For a list of all parks with picnic tables and pavilions or make a reservation, check out the Parks and Recreation Department.
  6. Unless the temperature is above 50 degrees, the skate/BMX park will be closed, so make sure you get in all of the board time you need before it shuts down for the colder weather.
