Adam Long has been appointed the new chief of the University City Fire Department. He replaces Chief Don Miner, who recently retired after 32 years of service. Long has spent 30 years with the City of St. Louis Fire Department. He currently serves as the Chief of Fire Operations for the City of St. Louis at Lambert International Airport. “I am very pleased that Adam Long will be the new Fire Chief of University City,” said City Manager Lehman Walker. “His experience and his determination make him a great fit for the position and for our community.” His first day on the job will be Jan. 28. Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and American Airlines, Inc. have reached a tentative agreement that will settle American’s financial and operational obligations at the Airport. American’s parent company, AMR Corporation, is currently dealing with Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and the agreement has to be fully approved. The City of St. Louis, which owns and operates the Airport, pursued a negotiated settlement, which includes modifying leases with American Airlines, to avoid a rejection of all existing agreements with the city. Lambert-St. Louis International Airport began work this week on a $695,000 project to overhaul two Terminal 1 entrances. The Good Friday tornado badly damaged both entrance ways in 2011 and created an opportunity to redesign the terminal’s lower level entrances, airport officials said. The airport, which is minutes from Hazelwood, plans to build all-glass enclosed walkways that will provide natural light to the walkways and baggage claim area below. St. Louis-based C. A man who tried to open a Chicago-bound airliner’s door mid-flight was sentenced this week in a St. Louis federal court to 10 months in prison. Reynel C. Alcaide, 34, of Burbank, Ill., is also banned from flying for the three-year term of his supervised release, and ordered to repay Continental more than $7,000 in restitution. Just shy of the one year anniversary of the Good Friday Tornadoes that ripped through North St. Louis County, Lambert St. Louis International Airport will re-open the C-Concourse Monday.
