Adam Long has been appointed the new chief of the University City Fire Department. He replaces Chief Don Miner, who recently retired after 32 years of service. Lambert-St. Louis International Airport began work this week on a $695,000 project to overhaul two Terminal 1 entrances. The Good Friday tornado badly damaged both entrance ways in 2011 and created an opportunity to redesign the terminal’s lower level entrances, airport officials said. A man who tried to open a Chicago-bound airliner’s door mid-flight was sentenced this week in a St. Louis federal court to 10 months in prison. Reynel C. Alcaide, 34, of Burbank, Ill., is also banned from flying for the three-year term of his supervised release, and ordered to repay Continental more than $7,000 in restitution.
