Hazelwood Residents Be Leery of Door-to-Door Scam

The Better Business Bureau warns people are falsely posing as students of L’École Culinaire in an effort to get victims to buy phony magazine subscriptions.

St. Louis area residents and those living in St. Louis County areas such as the City of Hazelwood should be alert for a new door-to-door magazine sales scam involving young people posing as students of L’École Culinaire, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns. A homeowner in the 5400 block of Pernod Avenue, in the city’s North Hampton neighborhood, said she was approached by a young man and a woman last week who asked her to buy magazine subscriptions to be sent to servicemen and women overseas. They told her that they were enrolled at the well-known culinary school in St. Louis County and were raising money to further their studies in Italy. The homeowner said she became suspicious when she asked the young woman for the name of the street…

Tuesday only, you can help the Northwest Chamber of Commerce by dining at Lone Star Steakhouse in Bridgeton. Fifteen percent of all sales will be donated back to the chamber, including dine-in, carry-out and bar orders.

If steak is on the mind, think about heading over to Lone Star in Bridgeton where you'll also be helping out your area chamber. Tuesday only, you can help the Northwest Chamber of Commerce by dining at Lone Star Steakhouse in Bridgeton only, in its Dine & Donate fundraiser event. Fifteen percent of all sales will be donated back to the chamber, including dine-in, carry-out and bar orders at the location at 11969 St. Charles Rock Rd. The promotion will occur from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. but you must present the flyer affixed to this article.

Local farmers’ market vendors say that the fruits and veggies they grow are superior to grocery store produce for many reasons.

Do you buy the freshest produce possible? According to many area farmers, the fruits and vegetables you buy at the grocery store may not be as fresh as you think. Blues Ownership Back in Local Hands for First Time Since 1999

The St. Louis Blues, which use IceZone at St. Louis Mills in Hazelwood as a practice facility, is now beer distributor Tom Stillman and a local ownership group's responsibility.

When local business man Tom Stillman took to the microphone at the Scottrade Center Thursday, it marked the first time in more than a decade, the St. Louis Blues will be in local hands. It's not since Kiel Center Partners, under the watchful eyes of Mark Sauer and Jerry Ritter, ran the show in 1991-1999 could the Blues fully say they belonged to good Ol' St. Louie. The St. Louis Blues have battled the tides of changing economies and different places in the standings since the days when insurance magnate Sidney Salomon brought professional hockey to St. Louis for the 1966-67 season.
