Political Poll: Does Akin or McCaskill Have Your Vote

If the election were held today, which Missouri Senate candidate would you vote for?

A week from today the election season will all be over.

All the ads, yard signs and campaigning will be done. In Missouri, one of the most contested, and publicized races, will be finished. Voters will finally get to decide who takes one of Missouri's two seats in the United States Senate.

Incumbent Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, is battling with Republican Todd Akin in a tight race. Patch readers, however, haven't seen the race as that close.

Twice readers have been asked who they favored in the race and both times Akin came out on top. In the first poll, Akin topped McCaskill with 71 percent of the votes (88 total). McCaskill picked up only 35 votes (28 percent).

In round No. 2, Akin's percentage dropped, but he still came out ahead. He had 62 percent (32 votes) compared to McCaskill's 37 percent (19 votes).

Just one month away from the big day, has your mind changed? Is Akin still the favorite? Will McCaskill pull it out?

Vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments below.

  • Which Missouri Senate candidate has your vote one week before the election?

    • Claire McCaskill—Deomcrat
        24 (50%)
    • Todd Akin—Republican

Claire McCaskill has lowered the bar for campaigning with her Todd Akin is Scary ad, Since she can't run on her record she has to resort to mud slinging. She can't hide from the fact she is Obama's lackey.

Todd Aiken is and idiot. During the Senatorial debate he indicated he was running for congress. Maybe that is where he belongs. Claire has done a good job and deserves another four years.

I can't wait for November 7th... When ALL of the political ads are GONE!!! I was watching the news and the entire commercial block was political ads... I turned off the TV. I for one want FACTS and Truth... NOT Mud.

We need someone with a healthy respect for science and technology - not a GOP southernist science denyer. If we want Missouri to up its tech enterprise game, including more patents per capita, more VC, more startup activity, more economic growth, more high value tech jobs, McCaskill though imperfect is much more of a step in the right direction.

Claire's first priority is lining the pockets of her family members. Can't argue with recorded facts.

Kent seems to be on target, in fact McCaskill signs have appeared on our personal property without permission. We took them down and laid them neatly along the road for them to pick them up....

Time to turn on Netflix, the broadcast news is so slanted and unbalanced which ironically is like our budget for the past 12 years. (both parties are to blame for this spending money like meth addicts)

Claire's quick willingness to kill unwanted or unplanned children is a good reason to not vote for her. God is the author of all life, not just the convenient ones.

I don't think Claire is advocating killing unborn children, but she is standing for a woman's right to choose. It's a personal decision that I would never support. That being said, if it's legitimate, I guess a woman would never have to worry about it. Or maybe God intended for her to get pregnant right?

The saddest thing about this race (separate from Claire's mother dying) is that there are enough knuckle draggers out there to give Akin a chance.

McCaskill corporation did not pay taxes. She apparently does not know what illegitimate rape means (false charge of rape claimed to avoid identifiing the father). She is two faced because she presents herself as middle of the road when she is not. Let's not let emotions about rape semantics obscure McCaskill's two faced record which is not per Missouri values. We do not need a two faced person to represent us.

By that same token, millions of Americans have died defending a Constitution that the Democrats want to throw away.
If you believe Republicans are against women, you are a fool. When you help everyone, instead of just this little segregated group or that one, women are included.

Could we also have a poll for the Congress race with another strong candidate running against the corrupt Lacy Clay. Robyn Hamlin for U.S. Congress! Let's get rid of corruption and vote a fresh true representative of Missouri by voting for Robyn Hamlin for Congress!

Learn what the hell "Marxist" means, dude. Obama is a CENTRIST. A MODERATE. And what does "represent the Constitution" mean? I was not aware that this administration circumvented the Constitution, or else the (conservative) Supreme Court and numerous other checks and balances would have spoken up. Also, if you're talking about repealing "Obamacare," you clearly have not looked into what it does for you - because it is essentially the same thing Nixon proposed in 1974, Romney rolled out in Massachussets around '06 based on recent recommendations by the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation. FYI.

Your own thoughts and the hard data to support your comments, please. Hannity, Drudge, et al are not sources, by the way. Have fun supporting your incorrect thinking!

Hey Missourian,
Obama is clearly a follower of the communist philosophy. His mother was a communist sympathizer and his father was part of the communist party. His mentor Frank B. Davis is communist. His brother Roy and cousin Odinga are Marxist followers. Obama knows nothing but anti colonialism and hatred for what our country stands for. His friend Bill Ayres bombed our Pentagon and is communist follower. The Supreme Court is not Conservative in ruling that ObamaCare is a Tax. Obama wants hope and change which are communist terminologies.Obama wants redistribution of wealth which is socialist. Obama has repeatedly made Executive Orders by passing our congress. He thugged the ObamaCare through with bribery and went against the will of the American People. You need to learn what the terms mean, Missourian. Obama is a Progressive and nothing toward the center. His record is deplorable. Unemployment doubled, gas prices doubled from when he took office, 1 out of 6 families now in poverty, 17 million on food stamps, black unemployment highest it has been in history. I know what Obama Care means. Higher copays having started, poorer quality of care, higher insurance premiums, many good doctors leaving the profession, longer waits for critical care like in Canada, government access to our bank accounts, death panels, violation of my religious beliefs by forcing me to pay for people to murder their babies. Obama should be charged for treason by aiding the enemy, terrorists.

Missourian,
It is obvious you drank the Obama kool-aid. Romney did not force his health care down our throats. The state voted on that. You might want to read Mark Levin's books and look into Obama's past. He has lied to us the people about Bengasi. He did Fast & Furious which gave weapons to the Mexican drug dealers and criminals. He is funding the enemy through the ambassador with a gun deal that went bad. Obama proudly flies the Communist China Flag and goes around putting our country down. We the People will take our country back Tuesday from OBama and people like you. You progressives should go to Communist China if you think government should be run in that matter.

Mark Levin is a commentator. What he says is completely irrelevant. Also, basically soundbites completely out of context don't count. Like I said, give me facts from news organizations. Straight up reportage. Not commentary. Not editorializing. Not snippets. Whole, hard, news. Because by that measure, all the spin disappears, and you are left with a moderate who has done a pretty decent jobs navigating an ocean made of shit.

K Smith

Mark Levin isn't just a commentator. He worked in the Reagon Administration as well as being an expert on the Constitution. He is a lawyer and has litigated hundreds of cases on the Constitution. News Organizations are not true sources as they repeatedly are biased and favor the liberal agenda. That's why nothing has been reported on Bengasi and all of Obama's illegal activities. All your news sources are for the left wing agendas. It is not moderate to take away our liberties in the constitution like free speech and forcing things like government run health control down our throats. It is not moderate to just sit and watch our military and ambassador die while aiding the enemy. I gave you concrete sources that Obama was trained under COMMUNISTS. That is all he knows. He has no respect for the "white Man". Your so called "hard news is nothing but left wing propaganda. CBS, NBC, any of those are not reporting the true radical obama. I gave you facts about the gas prices, death of our military citizens, double unemployment under Obama, increased food prices. The truth is found in Glen Beck, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dana Loesche who is a former left wing democrat. Again why don't you want to move to a communist nation since you like being controlled by government and treated as a victim? Heck, Obama couldn't even help his own brother living in a poor hut in Africa. He came to us Americans. It is radical to force Christians and Catholics to pay for birth control!

SHe has used her position to give her husband many dollars for his business in the senate rooms. She knows Missouri is conservative and doesn't favor the radical Obama. That's why she doesn't want to be seen with him and wants to make us think she is moderate. Look at her record and votes, please. Mark, Todd was correct in saying Congress. Reporting facts - what news organizations do - is not a sign of bias. Is Businessweek biased when it publishes stories like this week's cover story on climate change ("It's the Climate, Stupid")? It is not. Your comments on Levin do not change the fact that these days he is essentially a conservative commentator, nor that he would have a conservative bias given his background, and that as such he is not a reliably neutral information source, much like Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. So again. Where. Are. The. Facts.

- When, specifically, was free speech taken away? One could argue that the Roberts court, in its Citizens United decision, made actual humans' voices smaller. That is the only situation I can think of.

- If I recall, Obamacare did pass a majority in both houses. That is not what I'd call ramming it down our throats. It was the insurance lobby that launched the massive smear campaign against it. Why don't you drag Romney, Nixon, Ike, or Clinton over the coals for essentially similar ideas?
- Gas prices were low, just like the stock market, due to complete lack of demand in winter '08-'09 - two months after everything cratered. You can choose to remember it otherwise, but that is how it was.
- Communist? My ass. I went to all kinds of meetings in college and hung out with the entire spectrum from anarchists and objectivists to more socialist leaning folks. I sampled. So should anyone.
- Aiding the enemy? Show me. Legit sources only.

- Who said anything about being a victim? Victims accept their fate and eat their gruel. I plot my course and push hard against stupid BS.
- Wow, birth control. Get with the century. It's 2012, leave that up to the people with vaginas.
- Energy is an important issue, but so is climate change, and climate change is a very real threat to global economic stability. It's time to get with the program and end the grandfather exemptions and invest heavily in new technology.
- Just because the hillbilly part of MO is full of bible thumping ingrates doesn't mean we should tolerate policies that actively destroy Missouri's ability to compete on a global stage. Conservatism increasingly means backward and anti-science. No thanks. Claire is right.
- And really, isn't Obama the one rubber stamping the legislature's bills?

K Smith

You are a victim because that is what the democratic party is all about. THey want everyone dependent on the government through all the entitlement programs they promote. God is in control of the climate. I guess you must be one of the environmental wackos! Birth Control is what your party is doing to us women. We women are much more concerned about real issues of increased gas prices, increased food prices, and unemployment. It is the democratic party that wants to focus on birth control. You say leave that up to women with the vaginas. Well, then let's don't support the radical obamacare which expects all of us to pay for abortion and birth control. Women can purchase their own birth control at Walmart for what $9.00 a month. Conservatism is exactly the opposite of backward and anti-science. It means FREEDOM FOR ALL and the ability to take care of ourselves and trust in real science CREATION THEORY! Claire is rubber stamping his policies by voting for all of them and being out of touch with the 70% of smart Missourians that want our state out of the radical OBamaCare.
I pray that you eventually come to know the Lord and the FREEDOM that being a Christian is all about and reinforced with the Conservative Policies.

Gas prices were a major concern in 2008 by democratic followers. They complained then that they were too high under Bush. Well Obama doubled them. He said he would cut the debt. He didn't do that either. Obama is a Communist and FOX NEWS had the Seal's dad on there. OBama himself blamed it on a video after they new it was terrorists. Fox News has reported that! As for passing the healtcare in both houses. Well, don't you remember, he had the democratic majority in both houses. He also kept the republicans out and bribed some of the democratics in on it.
