In 1962, the Ferguson Church of the Nazarene served partially as a kindergarten with one teacher, 12 students in the basement of the church. In 2012, that church basement has become a full-blown 14-acre campus serving more than 1,000 students in preschool through twelfth grade.

Saturday, North County Christian School, also known as North County Day School, will celebrate its 50^th anniversary with alumni and former staff and administrators.

“It’s evidence of God’s blessing on this ministry,” Superintendent Greg Clark said.

Founded by Rev. Udell G. Moss, the church has moved and gone through a number of phases to reach where it is today, but Clark believes that it’s a cornerstone of Christian education for the North County community.

“I think schools and churches along with business commonly are the hub of the community,” Clark said. “I think with Christian school being here … it’s been a good option for a Christian education.”

A celebration has been planned for the school for Saturday, 4-8 p.m. on the school’s campus, and despite the heavy rain forecast, they’re forging ahead and hope the alumni and faculty will turn out.

Clark started as superintendent in June, and he said that he sees the celebration as a building block for the school’s next 50 years.
