Sprouts & Shutters: Mungenast Hyundai Moves on Up, LagoonaMagoo Says Goodbye

Here's a roundup of new business openings and store closures in the City of Hazelwood.

Have you noticed the empty space where Mama G's used to be on Howdershell? What about imagining what was moving into Aviator Business Park while sitting at the red light on North Lindbergh.

Well wonder no more! Sprouts & Shutters is here to let you know what’s moving into your neighborhood; be it a shopping center, a new hotel or a new restaurant.

Here's a roundup of some businesses that are either opening or closing in the City of Hazelwood.

Here's What's Sprouting Up New in Town

Mungenast Hyundai: Although the dealership isn't new to the area, it does have a new address. After months of construction the new Mungenast Hyundai dealership has opened next to some new neighbors in Bommarito Ford, Bommarito Nissan and Enterprise Rent-A-Car, giving the area some new competition.

World International Food Market: The market will be located in the same shopping mall as Cargo Bay and next to the Missouri Highway Patrol Department of Motor Vehicles. The World International Food Market is self-explanatory. It will have food and items from countries located throughout the world.

Jimmy John's: The sandwich shop that delivers is the first tenant in the newly built Aviator Business Center. Located at 6064 North Lindbergh, the sub shop is just north of Subway a few buildings down, brining some competition on the block.

Here are a Few Businesses Closing the Shutters

Mizz JuJu's: The bakery which grew to great popularity in the short time it was located in Hazelwood, closed at the end of the 2011 summer season. A sign on the door said it would reopen in October 2011 but that never happened. Soon after, the store where fresh baked goods lined the shelves for purchase was completely empty.

Village China Wok: Who would have thought after more than 10 years the only business in town that reminds you of China, at least China from the movies, would close. The bright red building with bronze statues has been vacant since the fall. There's currently a for sale sign in front.

Lagoona Magoo: The St. Louis Mills location closed about two weeks ago. Owner, Happy Up Inc., posted on Hazelwood Patch's Facebook page there are plans to reopen in the St. Louis area in the fall. Currently the toy company has two stores in Illinois.

"We've recently closed that location and are trying to find a new location for that store. At this time, our Illinois stores are open and thriving. However, the St. Louis Mills location is no longer open."

Howdershell BP: Service at the gas station has been spotty for some time. There have been weeks in the past year where the pumps were not open, but the convenience store was. Now it appears the entire building is empty and the pumps have been removed completely.

Green Dream Florist: The florist closed early in 2011. The space, located next to Hunan Kitchen and in the same shopping center as Classics Bar & Grill, remains vacant. The closure leaves St. Jude's Flowers in the Elm Grove Shopping Center the only florist in Hazelwood.

Sad to know JuJu's won't be coming back. But I'm definitely excited for Jimmy John's and the International Food Market!
