Man Pleads Guilty to Hazelwood Assault: Knocked A Man Out, Broke Multiple Bones

The Florissant man was sentenced to seven years in prison for the Aug. 6, 2011 assault. Hazelwood Police said Wade and his son jumped a man in front of his house.

A man pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in the City of Hazelwood. The plea came during the second day of his trial, which was Tuesday.

Kenneth Wade, 45, of the 1100 block of Verlene in Florissant, admitted he assaulted a young man at 2:43 a.m., on Aug. 6, 2011 in the 5300 block of Ville Angela in Hazelwood.

St. Louis County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Prebil sentenced Wade to seven years in prison.

Hazelwood Police said that Wade and his son, Kasey Wade, 20, hit and kicked a man in front of the man’s home, breaking multiple bones and knocking out teeth. Officers arrived with the fight in progress, according to a police report.

Kasey Wade, also of the 1100 block of Verlene in Florissant, faces a first-degree assault charge in the incident. Kasey is also charged with second-degree burglary, theft and property damage from an incident in Florissant on Jan. 4.

I'd like to respond to this story. Quite a bit of info was left out of the report. The reason for the fight was not disclosed - A Gun Was Held to Kenny's Daughter (Kasey's Sister) head by a 17 year old thug - prior to this fight. Many, many other people were involved in the fight, but got away before the police got there. Kenny and Kasey are guilty of making the terrible choice of taking matters into their own hands, but it was nothing any other Father and Brother wouldn't do in the same situation.

I concur what Peggy said and you too Candace, there are always two sides to every story. Kenny has many people that have stood by him because of the situation. Yes, bad choices were made by many, but when something terrible is done to one of your kids, you don't know what you would do.

Thanks Danielle. Usually when people disagree with a story regarding charges or a police report, they go off cursing and such so thank you too Danielle for coming on and expressing your view in a peaceful manner. You are right. I have two boys and if something were to happen to them I don't know what I'd do. Human nature. The question is can you stop yourself from crossing that invisible line?

I should add that I agree with Candace -- thanks to all of you for discussing this in a rational manner and in a way that adds to the news story.

Either way, it shows you shouldn't take the law into your own hands. According to prosecutors, the young man who was beaten wasn't even the person who was involved in the incident with his daughter -- so the wrong kid got a beating and the father is going to prison for several years. If a gun was held to his daughter's head, that's a criminal offense. I admit, had it happened to my kid, I'd want to do the same. But then I'd call the police and let them handle it. Peggy and Danielle - there's a lot left out of every news story, but this is what police and prosecutors reported.

There is not a racist bone in the bodies of Kenny or Kasey Wade. I know this for a personnal fact. I am a family friend. My son is african american. They have never treated anyone as a different race. No matter what your color is these to men would give you the shirt off of there backs. Yes things could have been handled differently but things happen in the heat of the moment. Really if you do not know the two gentlemen you should not speak of them. Any father would have done the same for his child. No one should ever threaten the life of another no matter the situation. Race is the last thing that goes through either of the Wade mens mind. Family is the most important thing in there minds. Blood is alot thicker than water. I will always stand by the Wade men for taking care of there family.

Although I wouldn't have chosen to handle this situation the way it was, I will say that I recall 3 or 4 white kids getting jumped by 3 times the amount of black kids a few years back and the black kids came from an entirely different area looking for it. Sassy...do you consider that "a racist act" or really any different than a larger older man up against a younger one? It's not always the "white girl lyin'" or "because so & so was black". Ironically, in the other situation I brought up, the white boys did all they could do by defended themselves against all the others (successfully I might add and WITHOUT any weapons) hopefully making it pretty obvious to the others that they need to "think before they jump" the wrong "white boy" especially in Noco. I agree...the "race" problems (along with pulling the "race card") needs to stop because a lot of the time, like in the Wade case, I have a feeling it would not have mattered what race the person was that did whatever...it most likely would've been handled the same way which, again, I don't agree with. Call the cops, give them a name and let them deal with going and busting the dude with the gun and press assault charges on him instead. Perfect example of 2 wrongs don't make a right.

First of all this rivalry between this young man and my son has been going on for quite sometime. Kasey tried to avoid the situation a few times. In return this young man started issues with his sister. The first encounter he spit in her face. The second he threw her down and punched her in the chest. The third and final times was when he put the gun to her head and threatened to blow her head off. also the heads of all her family members. If everyone did read the police report the young man was arrested with the gun in his possession. If you want to call this racism. It would be the young african american against the caucasian. Kasey tried to avoid this confrontation on more than one ocassion. .

Continued from Carla Worley second comment.
All Kasey wanted to do was go away to school on his Lacrosse scholarship. Kasey has many african american and caucasian friends. So that proves there is no racism in his mind. Kasey is only human just like anyone else. You can only take so much till you explode. Of course no one mentioned that the victim came to Kasey with a crow bar and threatened to knock his head off. He was only defending himself. After they fought 1 on 1. The victim was fine. It was the other 20 or so boys that contined to beat to near death. The victim and his cousin have been in and out of trouble with the law since they were both young teens. My son has never had a traffic ticket. And as far as the burglary is concerned that has been dropped and Kasey was at home at the time of the incident. The Florissant Police lied on the police report and also in court. That has become a proven fact. As soon as he gets out Forissant will be answered to his attorneys.Once again if we are going to tell the truth lets tell the whole truth.

I personally have watched Kasey grow up....one of the smartest, most polite and well mannered young men I've ever known. I agree....he and his family are "color-blind" as well. I've seen Kasey not only have friends that are of another race but also defend the other race and attempt to calm a verbal argument, break up fights and avoid them. The kid wouldn't take a bone from a dog let alone steal or burglarize. I've seen him on many occasions give his last dollar to someone in need or loan without ever expecting it back. I believe any sibling or parent can act out of having the wrong button pushed when it comes to their family members in a situation. The Kasey I know and that everyone loves had to be pushed to an extreme for something like this to occur. I do wish time could be reversed and a different choice be made for both he and his dad. There is a huge difference between "character" and a possible "mistake" and Kasey is of character that he learns from his. If he was one that didn't, he'd still be one worth saving.

From Kelly Wade
To whoever you are Sassy. You dont know the Wade's at all because I do not know who you are. If you are the owner of the house who I think you are. You were not home and I have a copy of the police report. If you want to put peoples business out there you don't know what your talking about. Hazelwood police informed that your a very well known drug user. Also numerous issues involving the police at your residence while you have not been home. And second of all a week before this incident Kasey was not even in the state. He was home from vacation for 2 days when the incident occurred. I would appreciate you keeping your comments to yourself. And please do not associate the Wade's with yourself. Thank you.
