Keeping Up With The Trendz In Hazelwood

One local mom's realization of her lifelong dream now helps people feel beautiful and look amazing.

Do you need a makeover? How about a new hairdo, a tan or a manicure? If you’re in need of a little self time, you might be interested in a Hazelwood salon that offers high-quality service for a reasonable price. Trendz Salon owner Lisa Thompson prides herself on having a professional and contemporary shop that offers a full range of services.

Trendz is the realization of Thompson’s lifelong dream to own her own salon. She became a licensed cosmetologist in '97, and opened Trendz in '05.

“I had always wanted to open up my own salon, and after working in this area for several years, I just really wanted a nice, professional salon,” she said. “That’s why we offer the same quality here as you would find if you went to an expensive Clayton or Chesterfield salon—but it’s at a much more reasonable price.”

Trendz, located at 7211 N. Lindbergh Blvd., lives up to its name with its stylish and up-to-the-minute atmosphere. And even better, friendly faces and warm hearts welcome customers when they come through the door.

Thompson said that all of the stylists keep up on their education and on the newest trends. Plus, since Trendz specializes in color, each stylist is a certified colorist with Pravana.

“We just expanded in March '09 and added the tanning side,” Thompson added.

Anna Tucker is the salon’s manager and senior stylist. She said that Trendz is a great place to work.

“I love this salon, I love the people I work with and I love the people who come in here,” she said. “I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.”

Amber Pruitt, another stylist at Trendz, couldn’t agree more.

“Lisa is a very good boss and we’ve got great clients,” Pruitt said. “I love it here.”

Thompson said she thinks it’s important to have an intimate and flexible work environment, and it shows. Her staff is so friendly that even first-time visitors might feel like they’re among friends.

Trendz is also a family-friendly business. Thompson has two children of her own, and says that while it’s tough owning her own business and being a mom, she has a little bit more flexibility as the owner.

“When I’m here, I am doing hair, but I do all my paperwork and behind the scenes stuff in my home office,” she said. “It’s tricky, but I like to be there with the kids.”

Pruitt said she also has two kids, a 4 year old and 11 month old. She said Thompson offers her the same flexibility if she needs to take time off.

“If my kids are sick, I have no problem with being able to call in,” she said. “My clients are all comfortable going to other stylists here if I have to be out unexpectedly.”

Thompson nodded in agreement, saying that as a mom herself, she couldn’t be any other way.

“I put my kids first,” she said. “And I wouldn’t expect anyone else to not put theirs first.”
