Hazelwood's David Phelps Back to Long Relief
NY Yankees pitcher David Phelps, a Hazelwood native, has been moved back to the bullpen following Andy Pettitte's return to the rotation.
David Phelps has been moved back to the bullpen following Andy Pettitte's return to the rotation.
Phelps, the Hazelwood West graduate, made his first starting appearance on May 3 against the Royals in Kansas City.
To most baseball connoisseurs it was the obvious move due to Pettitte's return.
Phelps will slide back into a long relief role, according to Roto World.
Bleeding Yankee Blue senior writer Mikey Blue said Phelps should be commended for stepping up the the mound.
"David Phelps did a tremendous job for the Yankees, answering their call for a starter after Freddy Garcia really just couldn't get it together this season as a starter," he said on his May 14 blog. "Look, that's why Phelps is there, a starter himself and reliable, it was logical to put him in that roll and put Freddy Garcia in the bullpen."
In his relief role, Phelps has also done very well. In an April 14 game he came face-to-face with his St. Louis idol, former Cardinal and current Angel Albert Pujols and had a solid performance.
What do you think of David Phelps performace this season?
