Hazelwood Interim Superintendent: Focus On Community Relationships, Student Achievement

Tobias Grayling informed the Hazelwood School District board and community about the actions of the new leadership in the past month during his 30 day report Tuesday.

With a little more than a month since the Hazelwood Board of Education changed its leadership, Interim Superintendent Grayling Tobias presented a 30-day report to the board and the public Tuesday night.

Tobias’s presentation included the transition plan and priorities that he’s laid out for the district as well as the activities that he’s attended in the past 30 days.

The plan focused a great deal on rebuilding and re-establishing relationships within the community as well as with state and federal officials, but it also gave insight to further building student achievement and improvement.

“Our No. 1 priority continues to be student achievement,” he said. “In the last 30 days, we have initiated several action steps that will lead to improved student achievement. We have spent the past several weeks sharing this plan with staff members across our District.”

He also detailed that the improvement plans of schools are being examined and reviewed.

“I hope the community appreciates this type of leadership and I hope the community takes notice of the transparency,” Board member Mark Behlmann said following the presentation.

Board President Cheryl Latham pointed out that there’s much more work to be done in the district but applauded the presentation and said community members expect this and the children of the district deserve this.

Tobias said he would prepare and present a 60-day plan report for the month of November, too.
