Could Kyle McClellan Be Headed Out of St. Louis?

The sports world is talking, and reports that the St. Louis Cardinals are shopping around the right-handed reliever. Orioles at the top of the list of prospects.

Last month Hazelwood Patch reported the St. Louis Cardinals avoided arbitration with home grown pitcher and Hazelwood West High School alum Kyle McClellan, agreeing to terms on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

Now it seems that the right-handed relief pitcher could possibly be calling another team home come the start of the season.

The MLB Daily Dish is reporting the Baltimore Orioles are looking at McClellan, along with bringing back Koji Uehara from the Texas Rangers.

McClellan began 2011 as a starter. He was moved back to the bullpen after the team acquired Edwin Jackson. McClellan's stats on ESPN show that he went 12-7 with a 4.19 ERA, had 76 strikeouts and 43 walks in 141.2 innings.

A surplus of right-handed relievers in Eduardo Sanchez, Lance Lynn, Fernando Salas and Mitchell Boggs, along with interest from a possible starter in Roy Oswalt, could be a major reason the Cardinals are looking to save the $2.5 million in McClellan, according to CBS Sports.

A  first-round draft pick of the Cardinals strait out of high school in 2002, the Hazelwood School District product was recently inducted into his school's hall of fame.

McClellan has four years with the Cardinals in Major League play.

Other teams also looking at McClellan include the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
