California Grill's bright red lettering is easily spotted while driving along North Lindbergh Boulevard in Hazelwood. However, aside from the huge font, the large nondescript building doesn't look like much from the outside.

Stepping inside the business tells an entirely different story. California Grill is certainly small; the seating area features four tables and eight chairs tightly packed together. And it's clearly a place primarily designed for takeout orders. However, the smell of freshly grilled meats and vegetables wafting through the air of the restaurant is hard to resist.   

California Grill got its start in the City of Hazelwood in July of 2010. Ever since then, it's been pleasing the palates of Hazelwood residents with its large menu full of offerings with a decidedly Californian twist. 

The menu features a variety of items appropriate for lunch, dinner, or a tasty late-night snack. The chicken wings are one of their most popular items, and come in a variety of flavors, ranging from hot, honey, buffalo, and California Grill's signature "Cali Style" – a mix of sweet and spicy flavors that is sure to please the pickiest eater.

I tried California Grill's Grilled Chicken and Rice bowl ($5.99). This healthy bowl came with seasoned white rice, grilled onions and green peppers and was topped with freshly grilled chicken. Paired with California Grill's signature cayenne sauce, it was an explosion of fresh flavors in my mouth. The grilled chicken paired perfectly with the mix of vegetables and delicately seasoned rice.

For those looking for something more substantial, California Grill also offers a variety of dinner specials. Try the grilled chicken and shrimp special ($8.99); this meal is accompanied by Texas toast and a side dish of your choosing. With sides ranging from green beans and onion rings to red beans and rice, the combinations are endless.
