The Special School District of St. Louis County (SSD) honored Hazelwood West High School journailism teacher, Chris Holmes, with a Special Ambassador Award for "demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to the students and/or staff of SSD.”

Holmes was presented the award at the annual SSD Salutes Banquet. Holmes' colleagues Denise Inman and Madonna Pelechek, SSD teachers, nominated him for the award.

The nomination praised his sincerity, professionalism and inclusion efforts.

Holmes said the award was “humbling and a little embarrassing” but he was thankful for the honor and gave praise to his family and colleagues for their influence.
