Hazelwood West Middle School Launches Student Success Course
Students at Hazelwood West Middle School will take part in a new course this year called Student Success.
“Our primary goal of Student Success is to develop a supportive relationship between each student and a faculty member while providing at least one ‘go to’ person for students throughout the school day,” said Dr. Allison Klouse, the school’s principal in a statement.
Students will spend the first 20 minutes at the beginning of each school day in Student Success. Teachers will support students daily by ensuring they are ready, focused and have supplies for the academic day while providing them time to check their grades online, said Klouse.
Through Student Success, students will set weekly goals and prepare their portfolios for student-led conferences with parents and teachers throughout the academic year.
During the course, both Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) expectations and character education lessons will be taught. Conversations with students will be specific to building self-esteem, creating positive relationships with peers and adults and meeting expectations in school and in their lives outside of school.
